Con Edison Development, Inc. (CED)
Con Edison Development, Inc. (CED) is an independent power producer that develops, builds, and operates electric generation plants primarily in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic United States. Our key business purpose is to provide wholesale energy to be marketed by our affiliate, Con Edison Energy in the regional wholesale markets and to support affiliate Con Edison Solutions' energy requirements. As such, we focus on assets located in the NEPOOL, NYPP, and PJM power pools.
From our offices in New York City's Financial District, Con Edison Development oversees a portfolio of approximately 1,700 MW of natural gas, oil, and hydro projects. In addition to development, construction, and operations of our own facilities, CED performs asset management and O&M services for third parties, drawing upon our extensive experience in the asset management, operation, maintenance, and engineering of power generation facilities.
CED is structured as a quasi-independent developer and operator.
- As an IPP, CED has developed and demonstrated the expertise of operating, managing, and optimizing merchant energy facilities, which includes the ability to enhance and utilize the operational flexibility of the generating asset, an essential capability to effective operation in a merchant environment.
- As a subsidiary of Consolidated Edison, Inc. (CEI) CED has benefited by instilling the CEI culture and values into our management of the company.
CED was formed in 1997 as a wholly owned unregulated subsidiary of New York City-based Consolidated Edison, Inc., one of the largest investor-owned energy companies in the United States.
