Department of Energy   One of many services provided by the Department of Energy is to conduct breakthrough research in energy sciences and technology, high energy physics, superconducting materials, accelerator technologies, material sciences, and environmental sciences.
     
Federal Energy Regulatory Commission   The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission is an independent regulatory agency within the Department of Energy that regulates the transmission and sale for resale of natural gas in interstate commerce, regulates the transmission of oil by pipeline in interstate commerce, regulates the transmission and wholesale sales of electricity in interstate commerce, licenses and inspects private, municipal, and state hydroelectric projects, oversees related environmental matters, and administers accounting and financial reporting regulations and conducts of jurisdictional companies.
     
ISO New England, Inc.   ISO New England, Inc. was established as a non-profit, private corporation on July 1, 1997 by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. In addition to operating the region's power grid and transmission reservation system, it also administers the restructured wholesale electricity marketplace for the region. Six wholesale electricity products are bought and sold by market participants on an Internet-based markets system.
     
New York Independent System Operator   The NYISO is a not-for-profit organization formed in 1998 as part of the restructuring of New York State's electric power industry. Its mission is to ensure the reliable, safe, and efficient operation of the state's major transmission system and to administer an open, competitive, and nondiscriminatory wholesale market for electricity in New York State.
     
NERC   The mission of the North American Electric Reliability Council and its successor organization (NAERO) will be to develop, promote, and enforce standards for a reliable North American bulk electric system.
     
PJM Interconnected, LLC   PJM Interconnection, LLC is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the largest centrally-dispatched electric system in North America. PJM's foremost responsibility is the safe and reliable operation of the transmission system and ensuring the reliable supply of energy from generating resources to wholesale customers. In addition, PJM operates the competitive wholesale energy market for the region and facilitates open access to transmission.
